Tiling at Gaffneys

Walls, floors and the details between.

Gaffneys provides wall and floor tiling for wet and dry areas, with the attention to detail that shows in the finished result. Every job is different, so tell Paul what you're planning and he'll let you know how Gaffneys can help.

  • Walls

From full-height shower walls to a single feature wall, laid out so lines stay straight and cuts sit where they're least noticed.

  • Floors

Floors set out from the room's key lines, with tiles cut neatly around wastes, doorways and fixtures.

  • Niches

Recessed shower niches planned around the tile layout, so the edges line up with the wall.

  • Feature details

Hobs, reveals, mosaics and patterned floors, where careful finishing makes the biggest difference.

Layout studio

The same tile, five different looks.

How tiles are laid changes the feel of a room as much as the tile itself. Try five common layouts and see how grout colour changes the effect.

Choose a layout

Straight lay

Tiles line up in a simple grid. Clean and modern, but every line is on show, so careful set-out matters.

Brick bond

Each row is shifted by half a tile. A classic look; with long rectangular tiles, a smaller offset is often suggested.

Third offset

Each row moves by a third of a tile. A common choice for longer rectangular tiles, with a softer stagger.

Vertical stack

Rectangular tiles stand upright in straight columns. It draws the eye upwards and suits narrow walls.

Herringbone

A zigzag of rectangular tiles. Striking, but it takes more set-out and cutting, which can affect the quote.

Grout colour: a light grout blends tiles together; a dark grout outlines every tile.

The details that make the finish

Look closely. That's where tiling is judged.

Lines that run true, cuts that sit neatly, and edges that look intentional. These are genuine Gaffneys jobs, close up.

Do you tile walls as well as floors?

Yes. Gaffneys tiles walls and floors in wet and dry areas, including showers, niches and feature details. Tell Paul about your space and he'll let you know how Gaffneys can help.

What affects the cost of tiling?

Mainly the area being tiled, the size and type of tile, the layout you choose, how many cuts are needed, and the condition of the surfaces. That's why each quote is prepared for the job.

Can you help me choose a layout?

Yes. Paul can talk you through how different layouts suit your tiles and room, including which ones need more set-out and cutting.

Is tiling the same as waterproofing?

No. Tiles and grout give you the finished surface, but they aren't a waterproofing layer on their own. In wet areas, waterproofing goes on before the tiles. See waterproofing.

My grout looks tired. Do I need new tiles?

Not always. If the tiles are sound, fresh grout and silicone can make a big difference. See regrouting and sealing.

Which areas do you cover?

Gaffneys is based in Wollongong and works across the Illawarra. Include your suburb when you get in touch and we'll let you know.
